WAEC Rolls Out Digital Certificate Service in Nigeria and Four Other Countries

The West African Examinations Council has introduced a new Digital Certificate Services System, branded as WAEC DigiCert, for use across its five member nations, which are: Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The development was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by the Council’s Head of Public Affairs at its headquarters in Accra, Ghana, Demianus Ojijeogu, acting on behalf of the Registrar.

According to WAEC, the newly launched platform is a web and mobile-based solution designed to deliver wide-ranging advantages to stakeholders. It enables users to conveniently access, request, verify, and share digital versions of their original certificates through a simplified process. The Council also noted that candidates who have misplaced their examination numbers can retrieve them via the system.

WAEC assured users of the platform’s credibility, emphasizing that certificate authenticity is fully protected and that the service offers significant cost savings. It further revealed that after a pilot phase conducted in Nigeria, the WAEC DigiCert initiative attracted favorable responses from candidates and educational institutions around the world.

Encouraging widespread adoption, the Council advised stakeholders to embrace the digital platform in order to eliminate delays and administrative hurdles commonly associated with manual certificate processing and collection. However, it clarified that the conventional printing and issuance of physical certificates will continue unaffected.

WAEC added that the DigiCert mobile application is available for download on both the iOS App Store and the Android Play Store. Additional details can be accessed through its official website and social media channels.

In a related development, the Council announced the release of the 2025 Second Series Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination results for private candidates. Affected candidates have been advised to first check their results at www.waecdirect.org before proceeding to www.waec.org to obtain their digital certificate copies through the newly introduced platform.
